Best Time To Visit Udaipur

When considering the optimal time to visit Udaipur, we can offer some suggestions, but ultimately, the decision is yours. The city experiences three main seasons: winter, summer, and monsoon.

Udaipur in Winters ( November to February)

Udaipur is considered to be pleasant and comfortable during the winter season. The temperature is noticeably cooler compared to the summers, but it wouldn't be accurate to describe it as cold. The days are filled with pleasant sunshine, while the nights are chilly. As winter approaches, the humidity from the monsoon season gradually decreases, resulting in a refreshing crispness.

Udaipur is best visited during amicable temperatures, making it an ideal climate to explore the city. Udaipur, a city located in the state of Rajasthan, experiences a highly tropical climate. The combination of heat, humidity, and rain can make carrying out day tours and itineraries challenging without experiencing cancellations or discomfort. Therefore, taking pleasure in the city during this particular season is advisable. Winter is the ideal time to appreciate royalty and indulge in luxury truly. The incredible atmosphere adds an extra touch of enjoyment to the experience. Moreover, the architectural beauty becomes even more magnificent, and the lakes acquire a romantic charm during this delightful period.

Udaipur in Summer ( March to June)

Similar to the rest of Rajasthan, the weather in Udaipur during the summer is extremely hot. As temperatures rise to the 40-degree, the atmosphere becomes increasingly uncomfortable and unbearable. The intense tropical heat can leave individuals feeling exhausted and dehydrated. Fortunately, there are pleasant evenings that bring relief with their comfortable temperatures.

While summer may be accompanied by scorching temperatures, sweat, and a constant need for hydration, it also offers some positive aspects. If you are fortunate enough to stay at or visit one of the magnificent palace hotels, now is the perfect opportunity to relax in the beautiful pools and enjoy delightful mocktails. These hotels are the epitome of indulgence, offering guests the opportunity to enjoy exquisitely prepared food and live music performances.

Udaipur in Monsoons ( July to October)

Udaipur warmly embraces the arrival of the rainy season. Despite the high humidity and frequent showers, the temperature during this time is noticeably cooler compared to the summer season. Therefore, it is an especially delightful moment to revel in the splendor of this magnificent natural phenomenon. The crystal drops of rain can remarkably transform landscapes into lush wonderlands.

The monsoons in Udaipur are truly breathtaking, thanks to the refreshing earthy scent and the soothing sound of raindrops. You can glimpse the neighboring hills, which sparkle with vibrant shades of green. Imagine the majestic palaces, formidable forts, serene lakes, and magnificent monuments reflecting in the shimmering water. If you're looking for a truly magical experience, visiting Udaipur is during this season.

How To Reach Udaipur

By Air:

The domestic airport in Udaipur, Maharana Pratap Airport, is approximately 20 kilometers from the city center. It is well-connected to several major cities in India, including Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Mumbai. Air travel is a convenient and easy option for reaching your destination. However, if you are traveling from outside India, it is worth noting that the nearest international airport is located in Jaipur. However, it is important to note that direct flights to Jaipur are not available from most destinations. Therefore, a more convenient option would be to travel to either Mumbai or Delhi first and then take a connecting flight to Udaipur.

By Road:

The NH 8 highway connects Udaipur to both Delhi and Mumbai, making it a popular route for many travelers. The journey is known for its picturesque scenery, attracting people to drive down to the city. The duration of the journey is typically between 10 to 11 hours, covering a distance of approximately 700 kilometers between Udaipur and either Mumbai or Delhi. Travelling with family can make road trips a truly enjoyable experience, especially when the weather is pleasant. Navigating the routes using Google Maps is relatively easy, and the journey itself is pretty smooth. Another helpful aspect is the abundance of dining options along the route, ensuring the journey remains enjoyable without becoming monotonous.

Udaipur is well connected by rail to several major cities in India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Indore, and Jaipur. The railway station is located within the city, just 2.5 kilometers southeast of the City Palace. It is also conveniently located near the main bus stand. Several trains operate daily between Udaipur, including the Mewar Express, Bandra-Udaipur SF Express, Chetak Express, and Gwalior-Udaipur Express. Taking the Palace on Wheels is another delightful way to travel by train, as it also stops in Udaipur.

By Bus:

Udaipur connects various cities including Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and many others through bus services. Buses are popular with many people from nearby cities due to their convenience and affordability. Buses offer a wide range of options, including deluxe buses, air-conditioned buses, and even state buses.

The Udaipur bus stand is conveniently located within the city, making it easily accessible. Bus travel offers a variety of options, including both private and government-operated buses. One of the advantages of bus travel is its affordability, as it caters to a wide range of budgets.

Major Attractions in Udaipur

1. Udaipur City Palace

The very first best place to visit in Udaipur is the City Palace. The City Palace, which is on the shores of Lake Pichola, will give you a taste of the royal glory of Rajasthan with its tall structures made for the Mewar family, which used to be the ruling family. The castle is beautiful inside, with intricate mirror work, unique paintings, murals, old furniture, and marble work that will amaze visitors. There are many beautiful houses and castles in the palace complex. Some of these are Amar Vilas, Bhim Vilas, Krishna Vilas, Manak Mahal, and Moti Mahal. Also worth waiting for is the Mewar Light and Sound Show in the evening.

2. Lake Palace

The beauty of the Lake Palace and its beautiful setting on the 4-km-long, man-made Lake Pichola will make you stop in your tracks. The Taj Group now runs the house with beautiful views of the Aravalli Hills. This is one of the most beautiful places in the state, and the historical walks are out of this world. Maharaja Jagat Singh II built this beautiful castle. Its carved marble and features will blow you away. From Rameshwar Ghat to the City Palace, you can spend the whole day in a boat on the calm Lake Pichola.

3. Jagmandir

Situated on Lake Pichola, this 17th-century palace complex in Udaipur is another enchanting romantic destination. Also known as the Lake Garden Palace, Jagmandir is a captivating destination that will mesmerize you with its magnificent beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The palace is divided into several sections: the Garden Courtyard, Gul Mahal, Darikhana, Bara Patharon ka Mahal, Kunwar Pada ka Mahal, and Zenana Mahal. This is another must-visit destination to consider during your boat ride.

4. Jagdish Temple

The creation of the Indo-Aryan Jagdish Temple is credited to Maharana Jagat Singh. The temples in Udaipur are located near the Badi Pol entry of the City Palace. To reach them, you will need to climb a few steps. The black stone deity of Lord Vishnu is genuinely awe-inspiring, and the brass Garuda image facing it is equally captivating. Several additional shrines are dedicated to various deities, such as the Sun God, Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and Goddess Shakti. The sunset Aarti at this location promises to be a truly wonderful experience.

5. Saheliyon Ki Bari

Saheliyon Ki Bari, also known as the Garden of the Maidens, was constructed by Maharana Sangram Singh during the early 18th century. This remarkable development was designed to accommodate the maids who accompanied the Princess of Udaipur to her husband's home as part of the dowry provided by the Maharana. This place was adorned with beautiful women who danced, sang, and celebrated joyously. Exquisite marble elephants, fountains, a lotus pool, and kiosks are undeniable evidence of that era's luxury.

6. Sajjangarh Palace

The Sajjangarh Palace, also known as The Monsoon Palace, is situated atop a hill and provides breathtaking views of Fateh Sagar Lake and the nearby Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary. This castle-like building is reminiscent of a fairy tale and serves as a splendid representation of the luxurious lifestyle of the Rajput rulers. The palace was explicitly designed to provide a breathtaking view of the monsoon clouds gathering in the sky, adding to its allure.

The Sajjangarh Palace, constructed in 1884 by Maharana Sajjan Singh, is a must-visit destination in Udaipur. Its main attraction lies in its breathtaking panoramic views of the city of Udaipur, along with its magnificent lakes, mountains, and palaces. The majestic palace is truly a sight to behold, especially when illuminated in the evenings. =

7. Fateh Sagar Lake

Udaipur has earned the nickname "The Second Kashmir" due to its stunning man-made lake, which features striking blue waters that contrast beautifully with the surrounding green hills. The Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur is known for its exceptional cleanliness and vastness. It is a wonderful place to visit, especially because of its four islands, which are attractions in their own right. The islands can only be reached by boat, but they offer public parks and a solar observatory that are definitely worth visiting.

8. Lake Pichola

Lake Pichola, an iconic symbol of Udaipur, was most likely constructed in 1362 AD by a Banjara tribesman. The lake in Udaipur is a must-see destination, measuring approximately 4 kilometers in length and 3 kilometers in width. Over the years, many palaces, temples, royal quarters, ghats, and chabutaro have been developed around the lake and on its various islands. The Lake Palace and Jag Mandir are top-rated attractions to visit in Udaipur. However, for a unique experience, we suggest taking a boat from the City Palace to Arsi Vilas Island. There, you can explore the bird sanctuary it houses and enjoy a refreshing change of scenery.

9. Vintage Car Museum

If you are visiting the City of Lakes for the first time, I highly recommend visiting the Vintage & Classic Car Collection. This museum showcases a remarkable collection of vintage vehicles that are definitely worth seeing. The museum is located in the former Mewar State Motor Garage and showcases a collection of luxurious vintage vehicles.

Among the notable exhibits are a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II, originally a pick-up truck used for royal hunts, and another 1934 Rolls-Royce converted to transport the entire Mewar royal cricket team. You can also see Cadillacs, several Mercedes-Benz vehicles, Buicks, a Ford Model A, and many others. One of the museum's highlights is the operational Royal Shell Petrol Pump.

10. Rajsamand Lake

The lake from the 17th century is renowned for being where the Maharanas would partake in tuladan, a tradition where they would give away their weight in gold. The five toranas, also known as weighing arches, serve as a testament to this practice. They are located on the pavilions constructed along the lake shore and are popular tourist attractions. An ancient Vaishnava temple in this location is a significant attraction for devotees and tourists. Additionally, the opportunity to go boating on the expansive lake adds to the area's overall charm.
